Killzone Mercenary Coming this September!

KZM2

Until now, there hasn’t been a whole lot of information, but from a poorly Google translated article, I was able to find the following information about the upcoming Vita exclusive Killzone Mercenary.

  •  The game uses the Killzone 3 engine.
  • The story picks up immediately after the ending of the first Killzone and follows many events from the trilogy.
  • The protagonist, Aaron Danner, is a mercenary who takes contracts from both the ISA and Helghast.
  • There are nine single-player missions with an average duration of one hour each.
  • Completed missions may be replayed with special objectives and new challenges.
  • Multiplayer supports up to eight players.
  • There are six multiplayer maps.
  • There are three different game modes, including Warzone.
  • An in-game currency is rewarded for all of your actions (such as kills, etc.) both in singleplayer and multiplayer modes and the amount you gain is commensurate to your performance.
  • This currency is used to purchase weapons and equipment.
  • Touch controls are used for melee attacks.
  • Motion controls are used to help with aiming (likely similar to Uncharted Golden Abyss).
  • The game is set to release in September 2013 (17th in NA).

Check out the Killzone Mercenary reveal trailer.

And today’s new trailer.

My name is Mike, I am 23 years old and have been gaming for as long as I can remember. I started out with one of my all-time favorites, Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES, and my passion for gaming has continued to grow ever since. I absolutely love western style RPGs. Everything from dungeon crawlers like Diablo and Torchlight, to hardcore action RPGs like Demon's Souls. I've more recently begun a foray into JRPGs with the release of P4G on the Vita, and I must say, I'm kicking myself for avoiding JRPGs my entire gaming career.

I hate to call it this early; but game-changer. This is going to be the FPS game to get for Vita when it hits in September. The Killzone 3 engine looks beautiful on the Vita, and apart from a few shadow issues I noticed, the game looks pretty damn impressive across the board.

Can I give you my money now, Guerilla?
How about my soul, want that too?
This wait is going to kill me.

I’m inclined to agree. The Vita deserves a solid FPS, especially after Burning Skies and Declassified. Killzone is looking like it will be a worthy addition to the Vita’s fantastic lineup.

The graphics are amazing. The explosions and that smoke. Will they be able to make it run steadily at 30 fps though? Seems tricky.
    In Guerilla we trust!

Recent reports have confirmed steady 30fps.

30 FPS and looking like that is fine by me. :)

In Guerrilla we do indeed trust: this is a developer who had a horrible brief when PS2 needed a response to the genre defining Halo; match it’s graphics, playability, scale and AI.

    Not possible.

Then, after the significantly improved Killzone 2, Killzone 3 delivered. Not in the AI, which still seems the royal reserve of Bungie, but certainly in every other area.

This game is exactly the title I envisaged when the Vita was announced; Guerrilla will ensure it milks the processing power of the portable to the max, and the trailer and coverage has been jaw-dropping. How cool to have GTA5 and this within 24 hrs apart?

It would be cooler in some ways if we had a Vita GTA too. But this is still damn impressive. I’ve seen the trailer a fair few times now. Can’t beleive this is handheld.

This is the power of the Vita chaps. Even IGN have said nice things!

I’ve just watched the extended trailer of weapons again….damn, that’s impressive :-)
